What is the Driver CPC Part 3b Test?
The Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) Part 3b test is an essential step for anyone aiming to drive large goods vehicles (LGVs) professionally. This on-road driving test assesses a candidate’s ability to safely and efficiently operate a vehicle in various real-world scenarios.
Key aspects of the test include:
- Vehicle Control: Ensuring smooth and efficient use of all vehicle controls.
- Maneuvering: Demonstrating the ability to move away at an angle, uphill, and downhill, as well as performing controlled stops.
- Mirror Usage: Consistently checking mirrors to maintain awareness of the surroundings.
- Signalling: Providing appropriate signals to other road users.
- Hazard Awareness: Anticipating and reacting to the actions of other road users.
- Speed Management: Maintaining appropriate speed and progress.
- Hazard Handling: Identifying and managing potential hazards effectively.
- Independent Driving: Completing 10 minutes of independent driving to show decision-making skills.
To pass, candidates must make no more than 12 driving faults and avoid any serious or dangerous faults.
