What is the CE 3b Driving Test?
The CE 3b test is the practical on-road driving element of obtaining your HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) Class CE license, also known as Class 1. This license is essential for anyone wanting to drive articulated vehicles, giving you the opportunity to drive some of the largest vehicles on the road.
During the test, an examiner assesses your ability to:
- Control the Vehicle: Demonstrating smooth, confident use of all controls, including steering, clutch, gears, and brakes.
- Manoeuvre Safely: Moving away at an angle, navigating uphill and downhill starts, and completing controlled stops.
- Check Mirrors: Maintaining awareness of surroundings at all times.
- Signal Appropriately: Ensuring clear and timely communication with other road users.
- Anticipate Hazards: Identifying and reacting to potential hazards effectively.
- Manage Speed and Progress: Ensuring safe and efficient driving while adhering to road conditions.
- Complete Independent Driving: Driving safely for 10 minutes while making independent decisions.
- Select Safe Stopping Points: Demonstrating the ability to pull over and stop safely when required.
To pass, candidates must achieve no more than 12 driving faults and avoid any serious or dangerous faults.
